The James E. Richmond Science Center offers dome movies, “Our Sky Tonight” planetarium shows, and a hands-on Discovery Lab. The center features a digital dome planetarium classroom, a fulldome theater, NOAA Science on a Sphere content, and STEM problem based learning experiences. It also offers specific shows such as “Beautifica,” “Tornado Alley,” and “Wonders of the Arctic,” along with field trips and group visits.
• Schedule: Public hours in Fall 2025 include Wednesday and Thursday evenings with doors opening at 6:00 PM and a fulldome movie beginning at 6:30 PM, plus select Saturdays with doors opening at 9:15 AM and fulldome movies beginning at 9:30 AM, 10:45 AM, and 12:00 PM; the office is open 8:30 AM–3:00 PM Monday–Friday by appointment.
The mission of the James E. Richmond Science Center is to inspire and stimulate an appreciation of science and its interrelationship with all other disciplines. The center exists to serve and enrich the entire student population of Charles County, as well as the greater Southern Maryland community. Guests are instructed to enter through the front doors of the school near the flag poles, with parking available in front of the school and in the lot to the right, and field trips and other groups receive special instructions on where to enter and park.
