About

DC Fencers Club Classes and Camps offers beginner fencing classes, summer fencing camps, and private fencing lessons in epee and sabre. Beginner fencing classes introduce students to fundamentals such as technique, tactics, and competition. Camps welcome beginner through advanced fencers and provide club gear for all campers.

• Ages: 7–16 years old
• Schedule: Eight weeklong summer fencing camps in July and August, Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Head Coach Janusz Smolenski leads the program and has produced national and international champions for more than 30 years, including Justin Haddad, 2019 Junior Olympic Champion (Cadet Men's Epee), and Amanda Sirico, 2018 Women’s Team Epee World Champion. His coaching team has a combined 100+ years of fencing experience and has produced nationally ranked competitive fencers. DC Fencers Club offers rolling monthly enrollment for beginner, intermediate, and invitational classes that run from September through June and focuses primarily on epee and sabre. Camps are open to youth ages 7–16, and before- and after-care are offered, with fencing uniforms and equipment provided so participants only need to come dressed to move.

DC Fencers Club states that it welcomes both beginners and competitive fencers and serves DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Fencing at the club is described as an “open skills” sport that teaches decisionmaking, confidence, self-discipline, focus, and respect.

DC Fencers Club highlights community involvement by congratulating fencers Jolie Korfonta and Caleb Su on their college placements and reporting on Potomac and Bethesda fencers winning medals and competing in Veteran World Fencing Championships. One fencer, Marie, says the club supports both elite competitors and total beginners in a professional, welcoming, and comfortable environment. A fencing parent, Robert, describes it as a club that serves recreational and competitive fencers from age 8 to 80+, focusing on epee and sabre and staffed by competent coaches and assistant coaches.
