About

Camp Sunshine is a family retreat program for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. It offers illness-specific sessions, bereavement sessions for families who have experienced the death of a child from a supported illness, and optional moderated parent groups during sessions. Each family stays in its own suite, and the campus includes a medical clinic, a heated indoor pool, arts and crafts rooms, a dining hall, waterfront activities, and outdoor activity areas.

Programs

  • Camp Sunshine Program — Children with life-threatening illnesses and their families; supported illnesses include cancer, retinoblastoma, brain tumor, kidney disease, sickle cell disease, other hematologic conditions including ITP, TTP, aplastic anemia, beta thalassemia major, thrombocytosis, and SLE (age 21 and younger); bereavement sessions also offered · Year-round sessions; illness-specific sessions of varying lengths · Family retreat model; free to all families that attend; medical support available throughout each session; families stay in their own suite; optional moderated parent groups available during sessions

About the provider

Camp Sunshine has been operating since 1984. It is free to all families that attend, and more than 2,000 volunteers help each year. The program says its mission is to inspire hope in children with life-threatening illnesses and their families through its supportive program.
