About
Portland Area Youth Soccer Association (PAYSA) Soccer Programs include a Recreation Program, PAYSA Minis, a Travel Program, Winter Footskills & Futsal, Spring Skills, and access to premier programs offered by outside partner clubs. PAYSA also provides information about camps, clinics, and other soccer-related activities. PAYSA emphasizes skill development and team play and does not keep standings or track statistics.
• Ages: 3–14 years old
• Schedule: A 6–8 week spring program
PAYSA offers children ages 3 to 14 an opportunity to play soccer through both recreational and travel programs. The Recreation Program is a fall league for ages 6–11, where players are assigned to local teams and matched against other teams from the Portland area, with no tryouts, no scores, and no formal standings. PAYSA Minis is for ages 4–5, with sessions that use playful games and fun drills to build basic motor and soccer skills. The Travel Program is for players ages 8–13, with teams that face clubs from across southern Maine and use a tryout process in June for placement. Winter Footskills & Futsal focuses on footskills, agility, and small-sided futsal games in an indoor setting. Spring Skills is a 6–8 week spring program with weekly training sessions that focus on technique, ball control, and tactical awareness and is intended to keep players engaged between seasons. Premier soccer programs are offered by outside partner clubs for families seeking an even higher level of play and year-round commitment and are not run directly by PAYSA.
PAYSA emphasizes learning over winning, does not keep standings or track statistics, and runs games for younger players in small-sided formats such as 6v6 or 8v8 to increase touches on the ball. PAYSA serves over 1,000 local kids each year with soccer programs built for fun, growth, and skill development, and programs are designed to match players with the right level of play for their age and experience. Scholarships are available so that all children interested in soccer have an opportunity to play. PAYSA is a volunteer organization, and its programs foster a love of the game so soccer can be a lifelong source of enjoyment for players.
PAYSA recently revised its Bylaws on November 12, 2018. The organization lists its leadership with President Tyrone Daniels.
