About
Summer Programs at NYA – Arts & Specialty Camps offers sessions that include performing arts, visual arts, LEGO building, science, magic, and creative writing. Campers may take part in activities such as outdoor games and activities, storytelling, games, collaborative activities, and open-ended creative building. Specific options include Wizard Magic Camp with card tricks, coin tricks, mind-reading feats, and watching video footage of legendary magicians, as well as LEGO camps that feature LEGO design challenges, daily hands-on LEGO builds, and themed projects like designing and building an action-packed LEGO ski resort or a wilderness base camp.
• Ages: 3–12 years old
• Schedule: Full-day sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with optional After Care from 3:00–5:00 p.m.; sessions are offered on various weeks between June 15 and August 7, 2026.
• Price: After Care is $75 per week; Wizard Magic Camp generally costs $375 Early Bird / $400 Regular Price, with Session 1 (June 15–18, 2026) at $295 Early Bird / $320 Regular Price; LEGO camps with Brick by Brick Maine generally cost $470, with LEGO Ski Resort Session 2 and LEGO Haunted Halloween Session 3 each at $405; a $50 non-refundable deposit per camper, per session is due at registration, and an Early Bird discount is available through April 15, 2025 on eligible programs.
NYA’s Arts and Specialty Camps are led by experienced NYA educators and trusted partner organizations, including Brick by Brick Maine for LEGO camps and Abracadabra Productions for Wizard Magic Camp. Wizard Magic Camp is taught by Phil Smith, who has been sharing the art of magic with children for more than 30 years, and includes a Grand Gala Magic Show, a live performance held mid-day on Friday that families are invited to attend, after which campers must be picked up or depart with family. LEGO camps are themed experiences such as LEGO Ski Resort, where campers design and build a snow park, half-pipe, grind rail, outfit the ski shop, and imagine rescue missions with ski patrols arriving by jeep, snowmobile, or helicopter, and LEGO Wildlife Rescue, where campers design and build a wilderness base camp, float a dinghy down the river, take to the skies in an ultra-light flyer, and construct a treehouse camp and mobile research lab; LEGO Haunted Halloween is noted as new this summer.
Campers are asked to come each day with a lunch, two snacks, a water bottle, sunscreen, and comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and shoes ready for hands-on activities; LEGO campers specifically should bring a lunch, morning and afternoon snacks, sunscreen, and a water bottle. NYA states that its Arts and Specialty Camps balance process and product and that the broader school philosophy emphasizes cultivating community, encouraging individual growth, and bringing out the best for and in each student. NYA is a coeducational college preparatory boarding and day school established in 1814, and its ice hockey teams compete in the Prep League (NEPSAC). The Summer Programs are overseen within the school’s leadership structure that includes Mary Goodrich as Director of Summer Programs, along with a broader team that covers academics, student life, athletics, health services, and operations.
