Flint Institute of Arts Art School offers activities such as Art School Winter Registration, Art School Exhibitions, Pre-College at FIA Art School, Art Spark!, and Homeschool Programs. Families can also take part in Glass at the FIA Free Demos, the Weekly Film Series, Art Lecture Coffee with a Curator, Art á la Carte, and use audio guides on a mobile device or desktop computer.

The Flint Institute of Arts Museum + Art School states that its mission is to connect diverse communities through fun, creative, and inspiring visual art experiences. The institution includes spaces such as the Harris - Burger Gallery, Ann K. Walch-Chan Gallery, Graphics Gallery, Sheppy Dog Library, and The Palette Café, and lists general hours for “Today at FIA” as 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
The leadership team includes Tracee Glab as Executive Director and Donovan Entrekin as Director of the Art School, along with staff such as Sarah Kohn, Director and Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, and Matthew Osmon, Director of Education. Staff credentials include advanced degrees such as MAs in Art History, MFAs in fine arts, and other graduate and undergraduate degrees in related fields from institutions including Wayne State University, University of Michigan-Dearborn, Michigan State University, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Kansas City Art Institute, Cranbrook Academy of Art, Columbia College Chicago, and the University of Michigan-Flint.
The Flint Institute of Arts Museum + Art School is supported in part by the Genesee County Arts Education and Cultural Enrichment Millage and notes “Your tax dollars at work.” Community involvement includes collaborations on exhibitions with other Michigan institutions, work with University of Michigan-Flint faculty, and staff service on boards and in non-profit organizations, including Buckham Gallery and the Board of Governors for the University of Michigan-Flint. Recognitions include awards to staff members from the National Endowment for the Arts and Michigan Council of the Arts, inclusion of staff artwork in museums such as the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery and Cooper Hewitt Museum, and a 2014 Young Professional Leader honor from The Flint & Genesee Group.
