About

YMCA Summer Day Camp includes activities such as archery, horseback riding, swimming, games in the pool, sports, games, and crafts. Each week of camp is uniquely themed, and campers attend branch-based day camps, school-based day camps, or a traditional day camp at YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin. Campers are not permitted to bring possessions from home such as cell phones, iPods, toys, Gameboys, PSP, action figures, dolls, or trading cards.

• Schedule: Weekly (5 Day) Rates and 3 Day Rates are offered; Summer Day Camp is closed July 4.
• Price: Branch-Based Day Camp registration rates are $235 for members and $250 for non-members; YMCA School-Based Day Camp Weekly (5 Day) Rates are $235 for members and non-members; YMCA School-Based Day Camp 3 Day Rates are $195 for members and non-members; the Kraft Meadows Intermediate non-member rate is $250.

A Y membership is not required to participate, and members receive early registration privileges and must remain active through the duration of their camp registrations. Children must have completed young fives or kindergarten to register. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided, and each child needs to bring a peanut-free sack lunch that cannot be stored in a refrigerator or heated in a microwave; freezing juice boxes the night before and using ice packs for lunches is suggested. Campers must bring sunscreen every day, should have sunscreen applied before coming to camp, and have frequent opportunities to reapply during the day. Campers are required to wear camp t-shirts on field trip days and should wear simple, non-restrictive clothing that can get dirty or wet, such as shorts, jeans, and tennis shoes, and may bring an extra change of clothes. Only swimwear is allowed in the pools, and street clothes may not be worn.

Counselors receive extensive training prior to the start of camp, including child protection and abuse prevention, behavior management and bully prevention, field trip and off-site safety and procedures, general risk management and prevention, pool safety, project based learning, character development, age appropriate activity, customer service, curriculum development and design, CPR/First Aid and AED, and STEAM/STEM training. Summer Day Camps are licensed under the State of Michigan. The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids states its mission as: “Guided by our Christian principles, we strengthen the spirit, mind and body of all individuals.” For more than 150 years, the Y has helped members improve their health and well-being while building a stronger sense of community, and the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids has a beginning in 1866. The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is described as one of West Michigan’s leading non-profits strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, and its community programs provide innovative, evidence-based programs and services that improve the health and wellness of the community, with many programs running through donations and grants.
