Eagle Creek Summer STEAM Camp is part of Eagle Creek Academy, a private STEAM school with small classes and customized lessons that focus on hands-on activities and the integration of science, technology, engineering, art, and math. The camp groups have maximum sizes of 14 children for 4th and 5th grades, 12 children for 2nd and 3rd grades, 12 children for 1st grade and kindergarten, and 10 children for 3- and 4-year-olds. The school’s mission states that Eagle Creek’s children are unique individuals who love the challenges of a STEAM education, that each class is like a small family where children and families develop strong friendships, and that love and joy are described as the greatest teachers.

Principal Kelly Pyle leads the program. Families of Preschool and Young 5’s students often join community events such as Trunk or Treat and Santa Breakfast. One parent, Mrs. Fick, reports that her children have enjoyed the summer camp offerings for the past two summers and describes teachers as supportive, engaging, and invested in providing fun experiences, with each day offering different activities and new concepts and skills. Other parents, grandparents, and alumni describe positive experiences with Eagle Creek Academy’s teachers, principal, small class sizes, and STEAM focus in the provided testimonials. Eagle Creek Academy reports that 100% of its grade levels average above the national average on all NWEA standardized tests.

Families are asked to send lunch, snacks, drinks, and suntan lotion, and children are asked to wear outdoor clothing and sneakers because they play sports, climb playground structures, and take walks in the woods. The camp notifies families in advance of water fun days, when children bring a towel, bathing suit, and flip flops or water shoes, and families are asked to apply bug spray before camp because staff do not apply it. The camp offers flexible before- and after-care that can be used on a steady basis or at random, and it uses a free app called Seesaw to share messages, photos, videos, schoolwork, and assessments.
