Rutherford Pool Swim Lessons, Baby Bubbles & Swim Team

Rutherford Pool Swim Lessons, Baby Bubbles & Swim Team offers swim lessons with toddler, beginner, Beginners II, intermediate, and advanced levels, plus adult lessons. Swim Lessons classes are 45 minutes long and are held Monday through Thursday, with Friday used as a make-up day. Baby Bubbles is a parent-and-me class for ages 0-2 years, and the parent gets in with the child; it is not a learn to swim class.

• Baby Bubbles — 0-2 years · July 5, 12, 19, 26; 11:00-11:45 am · A parent-and-me class. Parent must get in with the child. Child must have a swim diaper and covering over the diaper. This is not a learn to swim class.
• Adult lessons — Adults · Mon and Wed evenings, 5:15-6:00 pm · $15 per class · Register ahead of time at the pool. Adults are asked to register for only three at a time; more sign-ups allowed if space opens.

About the provider

The pool was proposed in the early 1970s, opened in 1973, was renamed after Jesse Rutherford after his death in 1976, was closed after the 2011 season, and reopened in May 2014. The Friends of Rutherford Pool remained committed to ensure that the pool provide swim lessons, exercise programs and a safe, enjoyable recreational experience to all Ypsilanti area residents no matter their age or ability. The pool is partnering with Huron-Clinton Metroparks and Washtenaw County to offer free swim lessons, and it continues to work with the Ypsilanti Otters Swim Club for swimmers past advanced classes.

Register for one session per child only. Do not sign up if planning to miss more than one day. First day is crucial in setting expectations. No afternoon or evening lessons for kids. Friday is a make-up day only for weather or pool issues, not swimmer absence. Sunday lessons are for beginner and beginner II only. Adult lessons ask registration for only three at a time. Saturday is changed to Sunday lessons this year. Sunday lessons are full and currently not accepting more registrants.
