Blooming Prairie Youth Club offers one-on-one homework help, hands-on learning experiences, and a variety of recreational activities and opportunities. The program also includes field trips and community involvement opportunities for participants. It operates at a fun, safe place for all school aged kids.
• Ages: 5–14 years old
• Schedule: School-year care before and after school on weekdays, and full-day care on weekdays during the summer
Blooming Prairie Youth Club operates during the school year Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and during the summer Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The program offers care before and after school, on no school days, and all-day care during the summer months. Free bus transportation is available in the morning and afternoon during the school year, with before- and after-school snacks provided. During the summer months, breakfast, lunch, and a snack are provided, and the program includes a summer pool membership.
Staff at Blooming Prairie Youth Club are certified or trained as Mandated Reporters through Darkness to Light, and hold CPR AED and First Aid certifications, Food Safety training, Youth Development Training, and Bullying Prevention training. The leadership team includes Club Coordinator Alicia Ptacek; Lead Staff & Kitchen Cook Pam Lujan; Youth Development Leads Abby Jordison and Jada Zamarripa; and Youth Development Professionals Jazlyn Kapsch, Mikayla Martinez, Addy Gunderson, and Aubry Alwes. The organization has been serving Blooming Prairie for over 20 years and operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and United Way of Steele County Agency Partner.
The mission of Blooming Prairie Youth Club is to provide quality educational and recreational opportunities to empower youth for their future. The program highlights that it is a fun, safe place for all school aged kids, where participants can create lasting connections and learn how to become productive members within the community. The organization celebrates its work throughout the year with events and fundraisers that are described as fun for the whole family, and it publicly thanks the Blooming Prairie community for continued support over many years.
Parent testimonials describe appreciation for staff support during COVID, note that children enjoy their time at the club and do not want to leave, and describe the club as a safe, friendly, and educational environment that has been an asset to their kids and the community.
