The Eden Prairie Football Association has been organizing and running youth football in Eden Prairie for over 20 years and was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2003. The philosophy of the Eden Prairie Football Association is to create an organized football program for all children that reside full-time in or go to school in Eden Prairie during the fall football season, with a primary purpose to teach the fundamentals of football, sportsmanship, discipline, and the importance of team play to all participants.

The EPFA is governed by a board of directors with five executive officers who hold three-year terms, and all other members are elected yearly. Board members and coaches are volunteers, and each grade has a Grade Commissioner who is empowered to manage team selection and in-season issues for that grade. Each Grade Commissioner conducts a draft after evaluations in August with a goal of creating talent equality across all teams within that grade.

The program has no travel, all-star, or elite teams, and there will be no “All Star” or “Traveling” team. Teams at each grade level are formed with an equal distribution of talent through a draft of talent each year, and each grade level has a weight limit for running backs so that the heaviest boys cannot carry the ball. Each participant learns to play positions on offense and defense during the course of the season, and each player has a starting position on offense and on defense for the game and is expected to play 50% of the game except for disciplinary reasons. The program states that it does not create heroes or failures among participants who are too young to handle either role.

Each team plays a minimum of 7 games, and teams in grades 6–8 have a playoff system. In a typical season, over 250 kids in grades 3–8 participate, with over 10 teams, over 45 assigned coaching team members, hundreds of parent volunteers, and over 100 football games played, including over 100 games played on Eden Prairie fields.

The City of Eden Prairie supports the organization by providing game and practice fields free of charge. EPFA uses local community members to referee all home games and participates in the South West Metro League that includes Eden Prairie, Chaska, Chanhassen, New Prague, and Orono. EPFA is looking for sponsors to raise funds for its football community and offers advertising opportunities for each sponsor.
