Camp options include a K–2 grade camp based on “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly” and a 3–6 grade camp based on “Law and Order: Nursery Rhyme Unit.” Participants spend time creating their own costumes and props, building set props and costumes, and learning comedy techniques, performance skills, and character development.

• Ages: 5–12 years old
• Schedule: Office and box office hours are listed as Monday–Friday 9:00am–2:00pm, with box office hours Tuesday–Friday 9:00am–2:30pm and 1 hour prior to events

The Children’s Summer Theater Camps are part of the youth theater camps connected with the Fairmont Opera House, which is the oldest operating theater in the state of Minnesota and was established in 1901. The theater was placed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1980 and has been recognized as the Official Best Historic Theater in Minnesota. It is home to Fairmont Area Community Theater and has just over 500 seats with acoustics described by the organization as some of the most incredible in the area.

The mission of Fairmont Opera House Inc. is to advance cultural experience and community involvement by providing high-quality arts and entertainment within its historic facility and throughout the region. The organization reports impacting roughly 8,000 people in the region, including about 1,200 youth, and notes that many volunteers contribute time, skills, and financial gifts to support artistic and community events. Leadership and contributors named in connection with youth theater and related activities include directors Megan Potthoff and Ellen Germain, as well as Katelyn Langwith, Kyler Wolters, Vanessa Schultze, and Jim Marushin, Curator at the Martin County Historical Society.

Director Megan Potthoff describes the youth theater participants as hard workers who put together an amazing show and notes this is her fifth time directing Youth Theater. Director Ellen Germain states that it is fun to see the kids find a talent they did not know they had.
