Lakeville Gymnastics is part of a three-component program that serves gymnastics needs from beginner through high school. It starts with Lakeville Area Community Education Gymnastics for Beginners through Intermediates, then advances to the Lakeville Booster Club Feeder/Competitive program with the opportunity to compete in the Midwest Amateur Gymnastics Association (MAGA) program, and then to the Lakeville South and North High School teams for Varsity and JV participants. Mat Rats is the first step toward a competitive Xcel gymnastics program and is an invite-only pre-team, and Dynamic Dudes teaches the basics of men’s gymnastics events, including rings, vault, pommel horse/mushroom, floor, and bars.
The Sensory Playground is specialized for children with learning and sensory disabilities and is set up as a free play environment similar to Open Gym but held at a separate time to provide fewer distractions. Only registered students are allowed to participate in The Sensory Playground class, and a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult is required to attend with the student at no fee. Open Gym is a structured time when students are encouraged to play and explore the gym with a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult. For Private Gymnastics Lessons, families are asked to bring the past session’s testing sheet, if available, so the coach has a foundation for the first class.
Lakeville Gymnastics operates within Lakeville Area Community Education, which was initiated in 1972 and has a mission to provide learning opportunities and resources for the community to develop life-long skills. Lakeville Area Community Education embraces the philosophy that education is for people from birth through adulthood, with extensive programming across that span. The leadership team includes Steven Porter, Director of Community Education; Katey Radant, Aquatics and Youth Enrichment Coordinator; Lisa Wright, Administrative Assistant; Samantha Roy, Finance & Registration Clerk; and Devin Reyes, District Facilities Use and System Manager. Lakeville Gymnastics is described as a comprehensive program that gives continuity to the skills gymnasts learn and prepares those who wish to go on to compete in advanced and high school levels, and it is part of a broader Community Education effort that brings community members together to address education and community concerns and link community needs and resources.
