Founded in 1974 in the wake of Title IX, North Shore Gymnastics Association has operated for more than 50 years and became a Minnesota 501(c)3 non-profit corporation in March 1974. What began 50 years ago by a group of parents has grown into a nationally recognized gymnastics training facility that has served more than 24,000 families and now has more than 1,500 girls and boys ages 16 months to 18 years old in its progressive class program each year. Many team gymnasts from this program have competed at the Regional and National levels, and several have qualified for NCAA gymnastics scholarships.
North Shore Gymnastics Association is a private non-profit gym that serves children and their families from preschool through high school and offers a variety of recreational and competitive classes and teams for this age range. The organization states that it is focused on bringing out the best in every child by promoting well-being, self-confidence, sportsmanship, and belonging through recreational and competitive gymnastics, and that it provides a place where all children can experience the power, beauty, and benefits of gymnastics. NSGA is raising funds for a new, larger, state-of-the-art facility to provide state-of-the-art training, serve more gymnasts, expand programming, and provide needed scholarships, and it offers scholarships as part of its building campaign to meet the needs of the next generation of gymnasts.
The mission of North Shore Gymnastics Association is to acquaint children at all levels of physical ability, potential, and growth with the sport of gymnastics in an atmosphere of safe, fun, positive learning and to help each child develop gymnastics skills, good sportsmanship, and self-discipline. NSGA coaches are described as accomplished experts in gymnastics who are trained in the latest techniques and progressions to support each child according to their individual strengths, passions, and abilities. NSGA is governed by an Executive Board consisting of an Executive Director, one representative from the coaching staff, and up to six appointed members made up of a combination of NSGA parents and non-parent members, with a minimum of three and a maximum of four non-parent members.
The leadership team includes Executive Director Ryan Rohloff and Board of Directors members Ryan Rohloff (Executive Director), Ryan Hallett, Deb Hertzenberg, President Amy Meisel, Brant Dennis, Lynette Mayhew, and Alyssa Leyva. North Shore Gymnastics Association states that it proudly serves the western suburbs and provides quality gymnastics instruction to children in the Orono and surrounding cities and towns.
Parent reviews describe strong communication, a clean and organized gym, and a wide variety of options for children of different ages, and several reviews mention that coaches, including Coach Megan, are great with kids and interact well with young children. One parent notes that both their daughter and son enjoy coming and that instructors keep the kids busy and change up activities every session. Reviews of birthday parties mention that the staff made parties smooth and easy and that children had a great time, while one parent notes that, for a child to attend a birthday party, prerequisite forms and waivers must be completed by creating an account with North Shore and providing email, phone number, and personal information including the child’s physician and health insurance information.
