The program also includes hands-on and engaging field trips to the Apple Orchard, the Mexican Market, and the Zoo.
• Ages: 0–5 years old
Since 2001, Mis Amigos has grown to care for over 200 children across 4 locations. The program is a full Spanish immersion program with 100% immersion and serves mainly English-speaking families who want their children to learn to speak another language. It uses an engaging teaching framework developed over 20 years, with lesson plans for every week that rotate after 2 years, and a variety of weekly kid-friendly themes such as “Life in the Sea” along with a color, a celebration, and a Spanish-speaking country. Lessons incorporate the STEAM framework (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) and use the Creative Curriculum®. Enrichments include music, baby signing, and other activities.
Mis Amigos employs native-Spanish-speaking teachers, including native Spanish teachers who are CPR-certified, and teachers receive expert training and professional development. The leadership team includes Dawn Uribe (Owner / CEO / 2021 Owner of the Year, The Child Care Success Summit™), Lori Semke (COO / 2019 Director of the Year, The Child Care Success Summit™), and Mayra Flodstrom (Director of Curriculum & Music). The program’s tagline is “Giving Children the World.”
Mis Amigos has earned the highest rating of 4 Stars from Parent Aware® and is accredited by The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). It has been voted a Star Tribune Best Place To Work for four consecutive years (’22–’25), including a 2022 Star Tribune Top Place To Work award. The program connects with other families through unique activities such as cultural dance festivals and winter Olympic games and reuses available resources around the community, including repurposing existing buildings for expansion.
Families receive instant updates, pictures, and messaging through the 1Core® parent app. Children play in spacious indoor playrooms and natural playground areas with trike tracks, slides, and rock areas, along with fenced-in yards, security cameras, and restricted access controls. Teachers maintain close, loving relationships with children. The whole-foods meal program by Birdie’s Table emphasizes fruits and veggies; meals are free from the top allergens, exclude artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives, and eliminate high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, hormones, antibiotics, and hydrogenated oils, while including hormone-free milk and offering gluten-free options.
