About

University of Minnesota Dance Team Clinics include dance training in jazz, lyrical, pom, hip hop, and contemporary styles. Clinic sessions also cover technique drills for pirouettes and a la seconds, work on leaps and jumps, variations of turn speed, spots, and arm and leg placement, and unique connection and entry and exit of skills. Some clinics include a game day experience.

• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Clinics and training sessions are offered on select dates throughout the year, including single-day and multi-day options, with some clinics providing 4 hours of instruction in a day.

The College Prep Spring Clinic is described as a college prep clinic designed for advanced dancers with modifications available for intermediate dancers, and its classes consist of jazz, lyrical, and pom styles, with poms not required. The Minnesota Made Fall Training Clinic includes 4 hours of instruction and provides a Minnesota Dance Team t-shirt for all athletes, and it features master teachers who are alumni of the University of Minnesota Dance Team. The College Prep Clinics note that poms are not required for classes that include pom styles.

Kid’s Clinics are described for dancers in preschool through 5th or 6th grade, with no dance experience required, and portions of these clinics are broken out by age. The Kid’s Clinic on September 28, 2024 includes a performance on the field at Huntington Bank Stadium as the kickoff to the Fall Performance Show, and there may be an opportunity to meet Goldy Gopher at this clinic. A Middle School Clinic is described for intermediate to advanced dancers in 6th–8th grade, and an Advanced Middle School Clinic is described as an advanced level clinic.

Technique Clinics are described for dancers in 7th grade and older, with separate intermediate and advanced/elite sessions. An Intermediate Dance Team Clinic is described as an intermediate level clinic with the same content for both sessions, and dancers are instructed to attend only one session. The Advanced Summer Intensive is described as an advanced level intensive for dancers in 9th grade and older, and an Elite Recruitment Showcase for specific high school graduating classes requires attendance at the intensive, with recommended skills listed for the advanced level intensive and elite level showcase. A Recruitment Showcase is described as geared towards elite level dancers and requires attendance at the prep clinic.

The University of Minnesota Dance Team is comprised of 25 student-athletes. The team performs at home football and men’s basketball games and travels to select away games and postseason competition. The team competes in the DIA jazz and pom divisions at UDA Nationals every year and is described as the winningest UDA program in the country, with national champion titles including 23x National Champions, 22x National Champions, and being crowned National Champions 24 times since 2003, as well as reigning 4-peat National Champions in pom and second runners up in jazz. The team has been selected to serve as the United States National Team in international competition on multiple occasions, winning four gold medals at the ICU World Championships, including a world championship in pom for the United States at the 2025 ICU World Championships and a silver medal in jazz at the 2025 ICU World Championships.
