About

Youth Sports Programs are offered through the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. The programs take place within a larger park system that includes 185 park properties, 55 miles of parkways, 102 miles of Grand Rounds biking and walking paths, 22 lakes, 12 formal gardens, seven golf courses, and 49 recreation centers. Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board properties receive more than 30 million visits each year.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board was established in 1883. Since 2013, it has been recognized among the top five urban park systems in the United States by the Trust for Public Land. It is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA), and is one of three park agencies in Minnesota and fewer than 200 in the United States with this accreditation for excellence in operations and service. The leadership team includes Superintendent Al Bangoura and multiple directors, including Jolene Goldade (Communications and Marketing Director), Leslie Vinson (Director, Community Connections and Violence Prevention), Jason Ohotto (Park Safety and Security Director), Deb Pilger (Director, Environmental Management), Chris McMaster (Director of Forestry), and Adam Arvidson (Director, Strategic Planning), along with assistant superintendents and other staff.
