The National Theatre for Children – School Programs features live, theatrical performances with engaging sketches and a variety of entertaining characters. Students take part through audience volunteers and interaction with the performers, and schools can also access livestream events, custom educational videos, digital games, interactive activities, and hands-on lessons. Programs include take-home educational materials such as student booklets, graphic novels, and other printed resources connected to the performance.

• Price: All of NTC’s offerings are completely free to eligible schools, thanks to the generous support of sponsors who fund programming for their communities.
For over 45 years, The National Theatre for Children has been touring the United States with free educational programming. Its mission is to make a difference in the lives of K–12 students, parents, families and educators by using theatre to teach important societal issues. All NTC programs align with state educational standards, including science, social studies, financial literacy, and health standards, depending on the specific program, and also align with national standards such as NGSS, NCAS, and Common Core.
Each in-school performance comes with a Teacher Toolkit that includes easy-to-use online resources, an Audience Guidelines video, pre-show materials such as KWL charts and vocabulary words, program-themed printable handouts, and digital games using characters and elements from the program. Two professional actors visit the school and bring everything needed for the performance, and school staff bring students to the performance space and seat them.
NTC delivers theatrical assemblies and videos to K–12 schools nationwide, along with digital games, graphic novels, student booklets, teacher toolkits, and the Power Play classroom game. NTC is certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) and is a women-owned organization.
Teachers and school staff describe the programs as involving students onstage, using humor, and focusing on topics such as water conservation. They report that the actors keep students’ attention, manage talkative groups with clear cues, and present high-energy shows that combine educational content with theatrical performance.
