About

Middle School & Youth Volleyball offers volleyball for students in grades 4–8 during the fall season. The program focuses on volleyball skill development and teamwork through practices and matches against teams throughout the metro area.

• Ages: 9–14 years old
• Schedule: Fall seasons run from late August to mid-October, with weekday practices and metro-area matches

The program includes separate schedules for different grade levels. Grades 7 and 8 begin practice on Monday, August 25, 2025, with a season running from August 25 to mid-October and practices held Monday through Thursday after school or in the evening in the Middle School Gym, with afternoon matches scheduled against teams throughout the metro area. Grade 6 begins practice on Monday, August 25, 2025, with a season from August 25 to mid-October and practices on Monday and Wednesday after school or in the evening in the Intermediate School Gym, with Saturday morning matches scheduled against teams throughout the metro area and parents or guardians providing transportation. Grades 4 and 5 begin practice on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, with a season from August 26 to mid-October and practices on Tuesday and Thursday after school or in the evening in the Intermediate School Gym, with Saturday morning matches scheduled against teams throughout the metro area and parents or guardians providing transportation.

Registration for grades 6, 7, and 8 opens in mid-July and is completed online through MyPaymentsPlus, and each student in middle school sports must have an updated and valid sports-qualifying physical on file to register in MyPaymentsPlus, with physicals valid for three years from the exam date. Registration for grades 4 and 5 opens in mid-March and is completed online through Eleyo, and students in grades 4 and 5 do not need a sports physical to participate. Due to high demand, team spots fill quickly and registration closes when all spots are filled, even if this is before the sign-up deadline.

All athletes who are interested in participating in sports are not to be discouraged due to cost, and Educational Benefits through the Minnesota Department of Education include child nutrition, discounted activity fees, sports fees, internet services, and college preparation, with approved discounts automatically applied in MyPaymentsPlus. Orono Schools maintains complete confidentiality regarding a student’s eligibility status.

Volleyball shoes are recommended, stable athletic shoes dedicated to be worn only indoors are required, and each athlete needs knee pads and a water bottle. Middle School & Youth Volleyball is not a Minnesota State High School League–sanctioned activity; however, Orono Schools and Orono Community Education adhere to the same high standards as the Minnesota State High School League for all activities. The program is coordinated and coached by Kim King, with Tiffany Clifton serving as Director of Orono Community Education. Orono Community Education provides learning opportunities, programs, and support services for people of all ages, and its programs contribute money back to the school district general fund for utilities and custodial costs.
