Long Lake Conservation Center Outdoor Education Programs include overnight trips, day trips, summer camp, retreats, immersive nature explorations, and nature immersion field trips. The program also offers week long summer camps, adult programs, facility rentals, and community workshops. Activities at the center include hiking on miles of hiking trails, skiing on ski trails, walking on a bog boardwalk, and geocaching.

Since 1963, Long Lake Conservation Center's mission has been to encourage the exploration, conservation, education, and appreciation of nature, and its stated purpose is to inspire a deep appreciation of nature so that those who experience Long Lake build skills to respect the natural world and accomplish lifelong stewardship of the environment. Long Lake Conservation Center is the education branch of the Aitkin County Land Department and is a county park and nature education facility. Long Lake primarily serves schools by hosting overnight, nature immersion field trips and is one of the state's five accredited, overnight Outdoor Schools in the Outdoor School For All Minnesota coalition. Outdoor School For All Minnesota is a coalition of the state's five accredited, overnight Outdoor Schools, including Long Lake Conservation Center in Palisade. The center sits on 760 acres and features a private lake, miles of hiking trails, ski trails, a bog boardwalk, geocaches, and more.

All proceeds from THE JAYHAWKS WITH MARTIN ZELLAR event at the Aitkin County Fairgrounds are allocated to helping kids attend summer camp and outdoor school at Long Lake Conservation Center.
