About

Front Porch Musical Theatre offers musical theatre classes that include acting, singing, and dancing training, along with weekly rehearsals that lead to FULL on-stage performances. The program also runs summer theatre camps and musical theatre classes that culminate in a full performance on stage with sets, lighting, microphones, make-up, and costumes. Everyone who signs up is part of the show, and every enrolled student has a part in their show, including major, minor, and ensemble roles.

• Ages: 5–18 years old

Front Porch Musical Theatre was started by co-founders Tim and Linda Lindeen in 2011 as a family-owned theatre. Younger students have one rehearsal per week, while older students have two rehearsals per week. Littlest performers perform at the Studio for their parents, and older groups perform on a local, professional stage with a large audience. Performances are held on local stages, and thousands of dollars are spent renting stages and securing teaching materials, props, sets, and costumes. The program offers four summer weeks filled with theatre camps, and performances are described as an excellent choice for all ages to attend.

The teaching staff includes experienced vocal, drama, and choreography instructors who have experience teaching students of all ages and experience in music, drama, and choreography. Linda taught music and was a theatre teacher in both public and private school settings for many years, and Tim was a college theatre major and actor. Classes are taught with positive, encouraging teaching styles. The program teaches students seeking enjoyment and personal enrichment, confidence improvement, and preparation for a professional career on stage.

Front Porch Musical Theatre states that it provides a fun, nurturing environment where children can develop their talents, build confidence, and form lasting friendships through the magic of performing arts. It is described as a family-friendly theatre with high moral, Christian standards that gives all the glory to their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and gives thanks to the Father who gives all good gifts, including talents used in musical theatre.

Students of Front Porch Musical Theatre have gone on to act at Children’s Theatre, Stages Theatre, Lyric Arts, Chanhassen Dinner Theater, Guthrie Theatre, community theaters, and in their local high school and college productions. Families find it convenient to northwest suburbs, and students come from distances for training and find carpool opportunities with other Front Porch Musical Theatre parents.

Testimonials from students describe long-term involvement and friendships at Front Porch Musical Theatre. Annie Johnson shares that she has been at Front Porch for six years, has done over a dozen shows, and has made many long-lasting friendships. Summer Beale states that she has been part of Front Porch Musical Theatre since about age five and calls it a second home where she can be herself with the encouragement of other students. Hannah Capes says that the strongest friendships she has made have bloomed at Front Porch Musical Theatre and that she considers the community there her family, including alumni, seniors, and younger kids.
