District 196 Community Education Youth Enrichment is part of District 196 Community Education, which is a part of Independent School District 196. The program follows the Community Education philosophy of identifying community needs and resources and matching them to support the development of individuals and the community. It operates within a broader Community Education approach that views education as anything that enhances life experiences and extends learning beyond kindergarten through 12th grade to all community members.
District 196 Community Education serves the cities of Apple Valley, Burnsville, Coates, Eagan, Inver Grove Heights, Lakeville, and Rosemount, and the townships of Empire and Vermillion. Community Education is described as a process that involves local citizens, community schools, agencies, and institutions as active partners in addressing education and community concerns. The mission states that Community Education embraces the belief that education is a lifelong process and expands the concept of education from kindergarten–grade 12 to all community members.
