TU Dance was founded in 2004 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and The School at TU Dance Center was formed in 2011 as an educational program committed to access and excellence. The School is organized in three divisions: the children and teen program, the pre-professional program, and the open program. The children and teen program introduces creative movement and beginning dance technique, while the pre-professional program trains aspiring dancers up to age 23 who are considering dance careers. The open program offers individual classes in techniques including ballet, modern dance, and West African dance. TU Dance is under the Artistic Direction of Toni Pierce-Sands, and booking information is handled by executive director Abdo Sayegh Rodriguez. TU Dance draws from diverse dance expressions to connect communities with transformational possibilities that bring to life shared humanity. Through performances of the professional company and dance education at TU Dance Center, TU Dance includes community members in experiencing dance. A TU Dance Center parent, Natalie, says that “students come out of the program with self-confidence, with the ability to transform their lives, with the gift of having experienced pure joy.”
