About
Summer Arts Camp offers art classes, workshops, exhibits, outreach programs, and games outdoors during snack and lunch breaks. The program includes over 100 different camps and special sampler classes for 7–12 year olds during the week of July 4th. All Summer Arts Camp projects are developed to be age appropriate according to the Lowenfeld stages of artistic development.
• Ages: 5–15 years old
• Schedule: All classes are 3 hours, with morning sessions from 9 a.m. to Noon and afternoon sessions from 1–4 p.m.; campers in full-day classes have a one-hour supervised lunch break, and all classes include a 15-minute supervised snack break.
• Price: Prices are provided with class descriptions; Art Center members pay 10% less than non-members, with a $60 household membership qualifying for the discount for 12 months from purchase, and all tuition fees due in full at registration; changes, transfers, and cancellations each incur a 10% administrative fee per class, with refunds and transfers following the stated timeline, and late pickup fees of $10 per 15 minutes per child.
Summer Arts Camp instructors are all college graduates who are either teaching artists or art educators, and camp assistants and interns are college students enrolled in studio art or art education courses. Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis, registration closes at noon the day before the class start date, and registration opens February 2, 2026 at noon. Scholarships based on financial need are available for campers, and the Art Center reserves the right to cancel classes that do not meet the enrollment minimum of six or more campers.
Caregivers are asked to accompany students to the camp check-in area on the first day, arrive 15 minutes early on the first day for paperwork, and drop off and pick up children no more than 5 minutes before or after camp. Campers must be picked up promptly at the end of class, and a $10 per 15-minute late fee per child is charged when campers are not picked up on time, with late fees due at pickup. Families may pack a bag lunch and snack, are reminded that some pigments and materials may stain clothing, and are advised that children will play games outdoors during breaks, weather permitting, and that closed-toe athletic shoes are best. Some ceramic and glass projects require firing and are typically ready for pickup about three weeks after class ends, and unclaimed items are recycled after September 30.
The Minnetonka Center for the Arts offers seven major gallery exhibits a year, with exhibits always free and open to the public and most artwork available for purchase. From its beginning more than sixty years ago, its purpose has been to make the visual arts available and accessible to people of all ages, interests, and abilities. Its mission is to provide teaching excellence, quality exhibitions, and cultural enrichment for people of all ages, interests, and abilities, in the belief that the visual arts are indispensable to a healthy community. Outreach programs provide art experiences for underserved audiences in schools and work groups and reach thousands each year, with more than 50 community partners on average.
