About
Great Lakes Baseball Academy Youth Training includes pitching, hitting, infield play, offensive game development, defensive training, and velocity-pitching. The program also uses Driveline Hitting programming, Great Lakes Velocity programming, and Lumberjack Performance training, and offers both small group lessons and private lessons. Small group lessons use a 4:1 player to coach ratio and are given in what the academy describes as a safe and upbeat environment.
• Ages: 9–13 years old
• Schedule: Total Youth Training (Arden Hills) runs December 1–March 7 with 90-minute sessions on Mondays or Wednesdays
• Price: Total Youth Training (Arden Hills): $450
Great Lakes Baseball Academy started in 2015 and focuses on player development, character development, and changing lives through baseball. All instructors have played or coached at the professional or collegiate level, and many have a primary education background. The academy lists its pillars as Grit, Self Discipline, Selflessness, and Servant Leadership. Its mission statement describes a commitment to a positive environment that supports athletes’ mental, physical, and social growth, with a “team first, athlete second” doctrine. Programs are described as a foundation of long term athletic development with Great Lakes and as preparation for high school level programming beginning at the 14U ages. Great Lakes Baseball states that it would like to develop into a statewide organization that serves communities and athletes outside of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro area.
A parent testimonial from Kip Elliot, Executive Vice President & CFO of the Minnesota Twins Baseball Club, describes his family’s experience with Great Lakes Baseball Academy as “tremendous,” notes exposure to many staff members over several years, and calls the staff knowledgeable baseball instructors and “quality people who sincerely care about their players.” The testimonial also mentions on-field success, camaraderie among teammates and coaches, and states that participation in the program has “unquestionably helped put my son in a position to play baseball at the college level” and “made him a better person in addition to making him a better ballplayer.”
