The Peaceful Warriors youth program is described as being designed to teach children life skills to help them be more calm, attentive, self-controlled, disciplined, and physically, mentally, and spiritually healthier. Full Circle Martial Arts is described as the home of the Peaceful Warriors and offers a place to unite mind, body, and spirit through the Breath of Life, while learning meditation, yoga, and martial arts. The program is part of Full Circle Martial Arts & Yoga LLC, which states that martial arts training is about more than just physical fitness and self-defense and emphasizes developing discipline, focus, and inner strength through mind, body, and spirit, along with spiritual principles such as unconditional love, gratitude, and service.
Owner and Chief Instructor John Miller began studying karate at age 7 under Rodney Fisher at Fisher's Karate Institute and passed his 1st Dan black belt test at age 10½ in May 1983 in New Orleans, Louisiana, in front of Master Masatoshi Nakayama (10th Dan) and Master Takayuki Mikami (9th Dan). As of June 1983, he was the youngest person in the world to achieve a black belt in the Japan Karate Association through this association, and his training lineage in Shotokan Karate traces through Gichin Funakoshi, Masatoshi Nakayama, Takayuki Mikami, and Rodney Fisher. Miller-Sensei continues to attend classes with Master Mikami in New Orleans, and in 2017 he joined the Sekai-Day-Kan Martial Arts Federation and the Black Dragon Fighting Society, training under Grandmaster Clinton Jacobs and Grandmaster Sean Smith. In 2022 he received his 4th Dan (4th degree black belt), testing under Grandmasters Clinton Jacobs, Sean Smith, and Arcino Stanley. The leadership team also includes Senpai Sherry Loba, Coach Victor Rodriguez, Professor Dan Carlson, Coach Dustin Davenport, Grandmaster Clinton Jacobs, Grandmaster Sean Smith, and Arcino Stanley, and all instructors are certified by top martial arts organizations.
Full Circle is described as a lifework of spiritual healing through mind, body, and spirit, with the stated hope that students learn to become men and women who are loving, patient, tolerant, kind, loyal, faithful, trustworthy, happy, joyous, free, compassionate, comforting, understanding, forgiving, and above all people of honor, integrity, and humility. The school offers mixed martial arts including weapons, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and no-gi grappling, expert Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction for youth and adults, elite no-gi submission grappling training, and specialized tactical weapons and combative training. It also offers a two-week free trial for beginners and hosts high-energy events such as “Glow Stick Mania” and summer camps.
Full Circle is described as a pillar of the Long Beach community, providing specialized training for local law enforcement and offering 1-year scholarships. The school has hosted an anti-bullying 5k run and walk in Long Beach and has been featured in WLOX and WXXV news stories related to anti-bullying events and teaching youth how to find inner strength. The program and school have received multiple recognitions, including being voted the Best Martial Arts School for 2024 and 2025, winning the 2024 and 2025 Viewer’s Choice Award for Best Martial Arts School, and being named the 2026 Best of Coastal MS Winner and 2026 Gold Winner for Best Martial Arts School.
Parent testimonials describe the variety of classes, Sensei Miller’s knowledge, experience, and skills, and mention the inclusion of mindfulness and breathing in classes. One parent notes changes in a child’s self-confidence over a two-week period, and another parent describes how training with John Miller and Steve Miller supported a teenage athlete’s return to soccer and participation in a state championship win.
