Walltown Children’s Theatre was founded in 2000 and offers a Student-to-Professional Pathway, year-round instruction in dance, drama, and music, and productions described as full-scale with live performance opportunities. The program uses sliding scale tuition and provides scholarship funding to any student who needs it, supported by donors including Duke University, Triangle Community Foundation, Durham County, and the Durham Arts Council, along with a growing network of sponsors. Camps and workshops are described as “Big Learning in Bite-Sized Sessions,” with a performance each Friday at the end of camp and half-day camps available for ages 3–5.

The mission of Walltown Children’s Theatre is to inspire positive social change by empowering and reconnecting young people from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, creating a new expression of community, and enriching their lives and those of their families and communities through exemplary performing arts instruction and youth development programming. The program focuses on equity, access, representation, and community engagement, and its after-school environment is described as relaxed and “family-like.” Walltown exists because of and for the Durham community and builds partnerships with schools, community groups, and local artists, and is embedded in and directly serves youth and families in the Walltown community, in Durham, and in the Triangle.
