The mission of the Cleveland County Family YMCA is to help all people reach their God given potential in spirit, mind and body. Hope Camp @ Hope Community Upper Cleveland is a partnership with Hope Community Church – Upper Cleveland Campus, expanding the ability to serve children and families in the upper Cleveland community. The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program is for 14–15 year olds who are enrolled in the CIT program, have a keen interest in developing leadership potential, have a genuine interest in working with children, are willing to grow physically, mentally, and spiritually, and are in good mental and physical health. The CIT program focuses on learning the leadership and supervisory skills it takes to be a future staff member at the Kings Mountain Family YMCA, provides hands-on experience in what it means to be a leader within a day camp setting while providing general job skills, and includes daily performance evaluations with suggestions for growth, with no guarantee of a staff position.

Camp fees are drafted weekly on the Monday before the child’s scheduled camp session, and cancellation requests must be submitted 15 days before the week of cancellation. Rides in and rides out for some camps take place in the gym or pavilion located behind the YMCA, and wellness checks are completed every morning before a participant is allowed to enter the building. Summer Camp ages are 5–13 years old, Camp Little Braves serves 3-year-olds who must be potty trained, and CIT ages are 14–15 years old. Dover Little Braves is a half-day camp with a full-time experience that includes fun, arts and crafts, discovering new things with exciting weekly themes, and lunch is provided daily while campers swim every day; all children must be potty trained to attend Dover Little Braves. The Four-Year-Old Summer Camp (Kings Mountain Busy Bees) is for children who are ready for a more structured, engaging camp experience and focuses on preparing four-year-olds for a smooth transition into a traditional all-ages day camp by building independence, confidence, and group interaction skills.

Morning and afternoon snacks are required each regular camp day for some camps, and one snack is required each regular camp day for Dover Summer Camp. Campers may pack a lunch or receive school lunch. For swim days, campers need a swimsuit, towel, and a change of clothes, and tennis shoes with comfortable clothes are required, with open-toed shoes allowed only at the pool. For Dover Little Braves, children should bring a swimsuit and towel, spray sunscreen, closed-toe shoes, snacks, and a water bottle. Some camps swim every day except on field trip days, and Dover Summer Camp swims Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week, weather permitting. If a child needs medication during camp hours, a medication form must be filled out for the Director to keep on file.
