Sailors do not need to own a boat to take part in Atlantic Highlands Sailing Education Program activities.

• Ages: 8–18 years old

Atlantic Highlands Sailing Education Program has been teaching the community sailing for over 25 years. It operates a summer camp that teaches sailing to New Jersey youth ages 8–17, with program levels that include Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced. The Novice program is an introduction to sailing for youth ages 8–15, the Intermediate program focuses on sailing skill improvement for youth ages 8–17, and the Advanced program focuses on racing and boat handling skills for graduates of the Intermediate program. Students build a foundation in sailing fundamentals, water safety, and teamwork, and can follow a progressive, graduated approach from basic instruction to competitive racing and regattas, including local, regional, and national regattas. Beginning Summer 2026, the program is expanding to include Adult Learn-to-Sail programming and keelboat programs that offer structured pathways into cruising and racing. AHSEP owns several Lasers and the fleet is growing each year.

The program is taught by US Sailing certified instructors and is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is volunteer-run. Its mission is to introduce children and adults of all ages to sailing through a structured, progressive pathway, build a strong foundation in seamanship, advance interested sailors into intermediate skills and racing techniques, and provide opportunities to compete in local, regional, and national regattas. Leadership and support roles include Co-Chair/Program Director Kate Kennedy (Goushy), Co-Chair Christopher Stone, Lead Instructor Brian Dellett, Treasurer Frank Allsman, Administrative Support Diana Burton, Program/Class Sub-Committee member Cheryl Bucci, Equipment & Supplies Sub-Committee member Allan Forrest, Fleet Maintenance/Equipment lead Doug Santo, Fleet Maintenance/Inventory lead Daniel Kenna, Regatta & Race Sub-Committee member Jeremy Herman, Facilities Sub-Committee member Christopher Stone, Sailing Education/Celebration lead Barbara Neves, and members Gillian Forrest and Meredith Gee.
