theCoderSchool has been headquartered and founded in Silicon Valley since 2014 and is described as Silicon Valley’s first nationwide kids coding program. It runs a nationwide system of over 70 locations teaching over 7,000 students every week with 1000+ expert Code Coaches and uses a super-small 2:1 teaching ratio in its Code Coaching program. Camps leverage elements from its year-round programs to create a collaborative environment and work with students from novice to expert. The organization states a focus on teaching kids to think logically, explain their ideas, problem-solve creatively, and learn how AI works, how to use it responsibly, and how to think critically about technology, with the motto: “Learn to code. Change the world®.”
The program’s mission statement says it builds custom projects to suit each student and emphasizes consistent problem solving and understanding technology fundamentals, from how the internet works to what makes up Artificial Intelligence. theCoderSchool is a longtime partner of the Congressional App Challenge (CAC) and collaborates with CAC to run a national recognition program to identify a handful of the top applications from CAC submissions across the country. It also runs a “National Top App of the Month” program, selecting the best app out of hundreds submitted nationwide by students.
Parent testimonials describe customized curriculum and STEM concepts via coding, with one parent from New Jersey stating, “Hands down, this is the place you want your kids to be.” Other parents from California, Georgia, and Connecticut describe their children enjoying online classes and camps, learning a lot, creating games, and being excited about Scratch camp and returning later in the summer.
