Summit Area YMCA Youth Programs include activities such as soccer, splashing, crafts, swim meets, SAY Swim Team Tryouts, and Les Mills Summer Mash-Up. The programs also connect with offerings like Healthy Hearts Cardiac Maintenance, LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA Cancer Rehabilitation, Educational Lectures, Cultural Events, Special Needs Activities, Safety Around Water, and teen programs like Achievers. Some activities take place at outdoor pools, including the Springfield Community Pool and the Berkeley Heights Community Pool.
The Summit Area YMCA was founded in 1886. Its stated mission is to nurture the potential of every individual, promote healthy living, and foster a sense of social responsibility. It is a cause-driven, volunteer-led, nonprofit organization and is the first Diversity, Inclusion and Global Innovation Network YMCA in New Jersey. Each year, it serves more than 15,000 individuals with free and fee-based programs and services in communities including Berkeley Heights, Gillette, Millburn, New Providence, Short Hills, Springfield, Stirling, and Summit. Through support from members, donors, and partners, it offers scholarships and free programs such as the 7th Grade Initiative, Child Abuse Prevention Training, Healthy Hearts Cardiac Maintenance, LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA Cancer Rehabilitation, Active Military & Disabled Veteran Memberships, Educational Lectures, Cultural Events, Special Needs Activities, Safety Around Water, and teen programs like Achievers. The organization collaborates with civic and charitable groups to address issues such as child care, childhood obesity, chronic disease prevention, and the achievement gap among students. Its branches focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility with a holistic approach to wellness that includes spirit, mind, and body.
