Impact Martial Arts was established in 1993 by 5th Degree Black Belt Master Instructor Frank Paul, who has been the Chief Instructor at the Clinton Academy since its inception in October 1993. The school provides professional instruction in Somerset and Hunterdon counties and serves the Clinton, Annadale, and Flemington areas, with over 300 active students from kids to adults. Impact Martial Arts offers classes in TaeKwonDo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with acclaimed certified instructors and regularly hosts tournaments through NJ Taekwondo Tournaments and NJ TKD Tournaments with affiliated schools in the tri-state area.
Founder and Chief Instructor Frank Paul is a 5th Degree Black Belt Master Instructor in Taekwondo and a 3rd Degree and Certified Instructor in Haidong Gumdo, and he was inducted into the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame in January 2006. Other instructors include Chris Reitz, who holds a 2nd degree black belt in TKD, a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and a 500-hour yoga teaching certification; Chase Gray, a Sr. 3rd Degree Black Belt in TaeKwonDo and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu; Jayden Ruban, a 4th Degree Blackbelt in TaeKwonDo and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with experience in firearms safety training and women’s self defense; and Ryan Catanzareti, who has been studying martial arts for over 20 years, with experience in Wing Chun, Silat, and CQC, and is a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructors also include Jim Vogel, who has over 14 years of consistent training and was awarded his black belt at the Renzo Gracie Academy under Professor Fabio Coelho in 2023 (certificate number 568), and Evan Aronowitz, who began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in May 2019 and is currently a brown belt. Red Collar instructors have graduated from the IMPACT Leadership Program, and Blue Collar instructors assist in a variety of kids classes.
Impact’s Little Ninjas program offers specially designed classes for pre-school and kindergarten children ages 4–5. Kickboxing classes mix fast, dynamic kicks from Taekwondo with techniques from American Kickboxing, Muay Thai, boxing, and MMA striking. The IMPACT Leadership Program teaches advanced students leadership skills, and many students are afforded opportunities to compete nationally and internationally. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Impact Martial Arts is presented as a perfect martial art for law enforcement officers to practice due to the many benefits it has to offer.
Parent and student feedback includes comments such as “Such a warm welcoming place with amazing leadership and staff - they bring out the best in everyone and I highly suggest it to all ages and experience levels” from parent Christina M. M., and “Top-notch, highly skilled instructors who all have the ‘it’ factor, being able to work with all sizes, ages, backgrounds” from parent Jim K. Another parent, Jonathan N., describes it as an “Excellent school” that “stands heads and shoulders above any other I have seen,” and parent Claudia S. notes that “Clinton Taekwondo is a great school with fantastic instructors. Mr. Paul is a born leader and truly inspirational.” A student, Nora C., states that “Impact Martial Arts is a home away from home for me and so many of my friends” and calls it “an outstanding place to grow not only as a martial artist, but a person as well.” Another student, C.N., a NJ State Police student, states that “Training in BJJ was one of the best things I did in preparation for a career in law enforcement. It was a massive help in getting through the academy.”
