Police Activities League of Egg Harbor Township and Atlantic County offers activities such as STEM and advanced STEM projects, robotics, arena sports, summer camps, intramural coed basketball, modern dance, football, cheerleading, lacrosse, and Little PAL’s Preschool. The program also runs McGurk’s Flying PAL’s Aviation Club, the SeaPerch program, First Lego League We-Do, Mindstorms, FIRST Tech Challenge with Tetrix teams, and supports world-class robotics teams like the ENFORCERS. Additional activities include the S.C.U.B.A. diving program “The Wrecking Crew,” ski trips to the Pocono mountains, the Ready to Ride Off-Highway Vehicle Park, zip lining, paintballing, arts and cultural activities, and annual events such as Fair For All and the Winter Festival, along with educational, social, and athletic activities.

Established in 1989, the Police Activities League of Egg Harbor Township and Atlantic County has served over 32,000 children in 34 years and is the largest youth organization in Egg Harbor Township. The organization operates as a non-profit, 501(c)3, volunteer youth organization and a 501(c)3 charitable non profit organization. Its mission is to improve police, youth, and community relations; to promote and advance the needs and welfare of children; to participate in constructive efforts that safeguard the interests and general welfare of children; and to provide a meeting place where children may take part in educational, social, and athletic activities under competent supervision and role models.

The program’s leadership team includes Executive Director and Founder Hector Tavarez, who is also listed as Captain Hector Tavarez (Retired EHTPD) Founder/Executive Director, Board Chairwoman Jen Heller, Board Members Vince Brotherton, Chief Fred Spano, Former Sheriff Eric Scheffler, and Wayne Schloss, and staff such as Assistant to the ED Sharon DiLorenzo, Director of Operations/Finance Jamie Oriente, Summer Camp Director Amanda Williams, Athletic Director and Trails Maintenance Sgt. Greg Bollinger, Building & Grounds and STEM Instructor Victoria Daisey, Head Mechanic Det. Bob Sheppard, Technology staff Rayfield Leatherwood and Ian Capp, and Media staff Michael Piotrowski and Ben Capp, who also works on the webpage. Robotics and STEM mentors include Hector Tavarez, Elizabeth Gloway, Jimmy Care, and Steve Wynn for FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Team #7149, and Denise and Mike Massey and Bob Kusnirik Jr. for the SeaPerch middle and high school teams. The Middle School SeaPerch Team placed 3rd overall in the nation and 1st in oral presentation, and world-class robotics teams like the ENFORCERS have won multiple state championships and have been recognized for outstanding performance in various competitions.

The organization notes that it serves nearly 1,000 children from throughout Atlantic County annually and continues to serve the entire South Jersey community in partnership with numerous police agencies, community groups, all levels of government, and the private sector. Hundreds of hours are volunteered each year by Egg Harbor Township police officers, officers throughout the county, and county residents, and the organization reports that it has strengthened its community partnerships, enhancing its resources and outreach capabilities. The program’s facilities include a new STEM Building of over 14,000 square feet with high-tech computers, 3D printers, and robotics equipment, and the Crossplex Building of over 20,000 square feet with an indoor turf field, a media studio, an esports room, and an observatory featuring a 14-inch Celestron telescope used for stargazing. The Ready to Ride Off-Highway Vehicle Park includes 8 miles of trails along with zip lining and paintballing.
