Mercer County 4‑H Youth Development uses a learn-by-doing approach as part of its mission to enable youth to develop knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The program offers informal educational programs to youth in grades K–13 (one year out of high school), including community clubs, after-school and summer programs, school enrichment, and special interest and training programs. Mercer County hosts its annual 4‑H FAIR at Howell Living History Farm in late July or early August. 4‑H staff provide enrichment programs in public and private schools throughout the county, along with special interest programs and trainings for youth, educators, community youth workers, and after-school staff. Mercer County 4‑H STEM Ambassadors have brought hands-on technology and engineering experiences to community events such as Spring Into Science at Princeton University and Rutgers Day at Rutgers University. Cooperating agencies include Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Boards of County Commissioners. Rutgers Cooperative Extension, a unit of the Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station, is an equal opportunity program provider and employer, and Rutgers University is an equal access/equal opportunity institution.
