Boys & Girls Clubs of Lower Bergen County offers programs in core areas that include Character & Leadership Development, Education & Career Development, and Health & Life Skills. The organization uses both in-person and virtual formats, including a virtual program platform that was launched in March 2020 and used to provide virtual enrichment and academic programming, along with grab & go bagged lunches and family produce boxes at no cost in 2020. Its facilities include an Olympic style pool that was added in 1969, and its programs operate at multiple school-based partnership sites, including LEAP at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, C.A.A.P at Hackensack Middle School, WAZE for middle school students in Wallington, ACE at all four Hackensack elementary schools, and a special needs enrichment program at South Bergen Jointure Commission’s Maywood Campus School.
The Boys & Girls Club of Lodi was incorporated in 1949, and in 1980 the Board of Directors voted to change the name to “Boys & Girls Club of Lodi.” In 2008, with a grant from the State of New Jersey, the organization officially began to serve youth from the City of Hackensack, and in 2010 it established a Hackensack location in the Housing Authority. In 2011, Boys & Girls Clubs of Lodi & Hackensack celebrated 60 years, and in 2015 it celebrated 5 years at its Hackensack location. In 2019, Lodi’s Enrichment Afterschool Program (LEAP) at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Lodi was launched, and in 2020 the Board of Directors voted to change the name to Boys & Girls Clubs of Lower Bergen County. In March 2020, schools and the Clubs closed due to the pandemic and a virtual program platform was launched, and that year BGCLBC provided virtual enrichment and academic programming, grab & go bagged lunches, and family produce boxes at no cost. In 2021, the Comet Academic After-School Partnership (C.A.A.P) program at Hackensack Middle School was launched, followed in 2022 by WAZE, Wallington’s After School Zone for Enrichment for middle school students in Wallington, and a partnership with South Bergen Jointure Commission to provide a special needs enrichment program at their Maywood Campus School. In 2023, ACE, the Afterschool Comet Enrichment program at all four Hackensack elementary schools, was launched, and in 2024 the organization celebrated 75 years of service and impact on April 22, 2024.

The organization participates in Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s GREAT FUTURES 2025 Strategic Initiative, with priorities that include increasing program quality, strengthening the organization, advocating for youth development, and reaching more youth. Lodi’s Enrichment Afterschool Program at Thomas Jefferson Middle School is identified as a 21st Century Community Learning Center. The organization reports devoted supporters and community involvement, and it partners with South Bergen Jointure Commission to provide a special needs enrichment program at the Maywood Campus School. Joseph J. Licata, MPA, serves as Chief Executive Officer of Boys & Girls Clubs of Lower Bergen County.
