• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: 5 full days (8–4) with sign-ups available for 3 consecutive weeks of MYSS Summer Camp
The Miss Yvonne Swim School has been teaching people to swim since it opened in 2002 and has been teaching young campers and swimmers ages 3 and up since 2002. In 2022, Miss Yvonne Swim School celebrated 20 years and currently serves more than 200 students each year. The program offers monthly recurring membership plans that can be joined at any time throughout the year, and it has options for everyone in the family from 5 months to adults.
Miss Yvonne Swim School states that its mission is to imprint a lifelong relationship with the water and to provide swim lesson instruction in a safe, fun, and engaging learning environment. The mission also includes a focus on customer service, helping clients walk away with a love for swimming, feeling safe and confident in their skills, progressing to their fullest potential, and enjoying every interaction in and out of the water, as well as building community relationships through camps and year-round swim lesson programming.
Miss Yvonne Swim School offers a camp guarantee that if clients sign up and attend three consecutive weeks of MYSS Summer Camp, their child will learn how to swim strong enough to stay safe in the water or they will get their money back. The MYSS Curriculum offers individualized instruction even in small group settings, with a 4:1 swimmer-to-instructor ratio. Programs immerse children in water experiences led by trained and insured swim instructors, and swimmers receive weekly progress reports and a weekly swim video. Parents receive a detailed email about what they need to bring to camp.
Swimming instructors at Miss Yvonne Swim School have gone through a detailed hiring process that includes a state and federal criminal and background check, a Megan’s Law check, reference checks, and pre-camp orientation and training. Swim instructors are trained and insured and have a stated zeal for working with children. Miss Yvonne, the founder and instructor, is American Red Cross WSI Certified and American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and AED certified. She has an undergraduate degree from Stevens Institute of Technology, where she swam on the Division III NCAA Varsity Team, and a Master’s Degree in Physical Education. She has been a licensed educator in the State of New Jersey for nearly 10 years, mostly in PreK, taught swimming as a Health and Physical Education teacher for two years at the middle school level, has experience coaching proficient swimmers on a club swim team, and has worked as a Certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor.
Miss Yvonne Swim School Camp is a member of the American Camp Association and has achieved accreditation status. Miss Yvonne Swim School conducts lessons throughout the Hudson County area, including Hoboken, Jersey City, Weehawken, North Bergen, West New York, Edgewater, and Fort Lee, and was featured on Telemundo on Hoy Día, where Miss Yvonne shared about her personal swimming accident and the importance of learning to swim at a young age.
Parent testimonials describe children attending spring and summer camps, receiving two hours of swimming a day, and experiencing activities such as crafts, nature walks, outdoor play time, jumping off a diving board, climbing a rock wall and jumping into the pool, swimming the full length of the pool unassisted, playing on a pirate ship, and making friends. Parents report that children who were hesitant or fearful of the water became more comfortable going under water, floating, and swimming, and that staff communicated frequently about progress, safety, and logistics. Testimonials also mention localized bus pickup in Jersey City and Hoboken with multiple stops, a teacher on the bus, a bus tracker, and detailed emails from Miss Yvonne about what to bring and how children are doing.
