Town of Kearny Recreation Programs offers activities such as basketball, cheerleading, fall baseball, fall girls’ softball, general football, girls’ softball, golf, karate, Little League, Minor League and Tee-Ball baseball, pool access, Red Bird travel baseball, street hockey, wrestling, yoga, youth soccer, and archery. The program also coordinates community events including a 4th of July Firework Celebration, the Town of Kearny Halloween Parade, and a Holiday Celebration. Additional recreation options include use of an archery range, a dog park, multiple playgrounds, a marina for boat launch and retrieval, and multi-sport complexes with fields and courts.

• Schedule: Office hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with different registration periods and seasonal schedules for activities such as basketball, cheerleading, baseball, softball, football, golf, karate, pool access, street hockey, wrestling, yoga, youth soccer, and community events throughout the year.
• Price: For Golf Open/Senior Golf, the Recreation Department provides a gift card toward the cost of power carts only, with all other fees the golfer’s responsibility; pool badges are required for the Open Pool Program and may be purchased at the recreation office, with no specific dollar amounts stated.
The Department of Parks and Recreation states that its mission is to improve the quality of life for residents through a vast range of recreational programs and the provision of high-quality recreational facilities. The department coordinates recreational sports and leisure programs for all residents and is in constant need of volunteer coaches, who must complete FBI fingerprinting and a written New Jersey State Police background check. The department also organizes community events such as the 4th of July Firework Celebration, the Town of Kearny Halloween Parade, the Holiday Celebration, and has honored its senior community at the 35th Annual Senior Picnic hosted by the mayor and Town Council.
Ralph A. Cattafi is the Director of Parks and Recreation and began his career with the Town of Kearny Recreation Department in 1998, becoming director in 2015. He holds a BA degree in Recreation Administration from Kean University, is a Rutgers Safety Clinician (Sports Awareness for Education Today’s Youth), a Certified Pool Operator, and a member of the New Jersey Recreation and Parks Association and the National Recreation Parks Association.
