About
Willow Lake Day Camp offers more than 60 activities, including swim, aquatics, athletics, arts, adventure, water sports, performing and creative arts, special events, and a Tubing program that takes place on a quiet cove of New Jersey’s largest lake. Each activity area is custom designed for specific age groups, and campers entering 2nd grade and up have Weekly Choice to select part of their daily schedule.
• Ages: 3–15 years old
Willow Lake Day Camp offers age-appropriate programs called Little Willows (Pre-K and Kindergarten), Middle Camp (Grades 1 and 2), Senior Camp (Grades 3–8), and a CIT Program (Grades 9 and 10). The camp is ACA Accredited and is often compared to a premier sleep-away camp, with a 35-acre campus that includes two lakes, four heated pools, a heated Frog Pool for younger campers, an Advanced Adventure Park, a 30-foot climbing tower, and over 40,000 square feet of indoor and covered space. Transportation is included in tuition, with a modern fleet of school buses supervised by a year-round team member, efficient central transportation stops, and trained paid bus counselors who lead games and songs on the buses. The camp is a nut-aware facility that never uses nut oils, nut products, or sesame in any food served and reports being well equipped to handle all allergies and dietary needs.
Willow Lake Day Camp follows the DREAM BIG philosophy, which stands for Discovery, Respect, Empathy, Appreciation, Memories, Benevolence, Integrity, and Generosity, and promotes a culture of kindness and a no-judgment zone. The program emphasizes small groups, experienced leaders, personalized preparation, and extremely low camper-to-staff ratios, with a heavy emphasis on teachers as activity specialists and college-aged counselors as role models. Activity specialists are professional educators and coaches, and two year-round staff members focus on hiring. A team of 5 or more dedicated registered nurses is on-site daily to staff two Health Center locations.
Families have one dedicated Unit Leader as a point of contact, and Willow Lake Day Camp is well known for a philosophy of partnering with parents, aiming for proactive, transparent communication that keeps parents connected to their child’s summer without interrupting the child’s experience and independence. Over 500 high-quality photos are uploaded daily to the My Willow Lake app. The camp provides central stop transportation service to families across Essex, Morris, Union, Hudson, and Sussex counties, and touring Willow Lake is promoted as the best way to see the camp.
