About
Project HEAL @ Camp Creek Run offers activities that include EcoStudies, arts and crafts, music, sports, and outdoor adventure. The summer camp program takes place at Camp Creek Run, which is managed as a nature preserve and used as an outdoor classroom for learning about local ecology.
• Ages: 4–12 years old
• Schedule: The summer camp program runs for eight weeks, and children ages 4–12 can attend the full eight-week program or choose flexible camping sessions
Project HEAL (Human, Environmental, and Animal Links) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to connect children with nature and to enrich the lives of children through experiences that involve interaction with the environment, community, and animals. The summer program’s philosophy is expressed as “Respect for the self, respect for others, and respect for all living things,” and it is based on the belief that respect and understanding for the natural world foster a child’s connection to community and other human beings. Camp Creek Run Summer Camp Program is a state-accredited, dynamic summer day camp program for children ages 4–12, and also offers year-round environmental education opportunities for children, families, school groups, and scout troops.
Camp Creek Run became the home of Project HEAL in 2003, when Project HEAL partnered with the Burlington County Freeholders, New Jersey’s Green Acres Program, and The Trust for Public Land to purchase 40 acres from the Foster family through conservation grant funding. In 2008, Project HEAL received additional conservation grant funding from the same partners to preserve an adjacent 10-acre property from the Radcliffe family. Since co-founding Project HEAL/Camp Creek Run in 2003, the organization has managed the site as a nature preserve with a focus on enhancing wildlife habitat and maintaining biodiversity.
The leadership team includes Keara R. Giannotti, Executive Director and Director of EcoStudy Programming; Danielle Giannotti, Assistant Director and Camp Family Liaison; and Neil R. King, Co-Summer Camp Director. Keara is an environmental educator with over 30 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, including summer camp and children’s services, healthcare planning, grant writing, and wildlife conservation and rehabilitation; she is a Rutgers Environmental Steward and a Duke Farms Master Ecologist and holds an MPA and an MS in Natural Resources with an emphasis on Environmental Education and Interpretation. Danielle is a seasoned Master Gardener, and Neil taught art for 30 years in the Collingswood School District and brings extensive art teaching experience to Project HEAL’s summer program.
