• Ages: 3–12 years old
United Black Belt Academy Children's Programs are led by owner Sanghyun Lee. The stated mission is: “We Help Parents Raise Confident Leaders & Adults Reach Their Full Potential! Martial arts is unlike any other sport or activity because at the core of the training, the emphasis is on personal development. This allows us to teach life skills like confidence, discipline, and focus which will affect all aspects of our students’ lives, even after they have finished training!” United Black Belt Academy serves the communities of Allendale, Glen Rock, and Midland Park.
One parent, Leighton Kelly, reports enrolling a child with ADHD in martial arts classes and describes the child taking pride in being a martial artist. Another parent, Sarah Smith, describes her daughter’s experience with bullying and states that positive verbal reinforcement in martial arts training built her daughter’s self-confidence and improved her mental health. The program offers a Tiny Tigers program for ages 3–5 and a Junior Tigers program for ages 6–10, and it notes that anyone can begin martial arts at any age and fitness level. The program also offers Adult Martial Arts programs for ages 18 and up, an option to try a class for free, a semi-private first lesson for children, and web specials.
