North Plainfield Recreation Programs offers activities including Summer Camp, Hatha Yoga, NFL Flag Football, Cheer, Dance, Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Soccer, a Men’s Softball league, and Track and Field. The program also includes a free summer session of Hatha Yoga with in-person classes.

• Schedule: Free summer Hatha Yoga classes meet on Wednesdays, July 8, July 15, and July 22 at 6:30 PM

The North Plainfield Department of Parks and Recreation states that its mission is to provide athletic, recreational, and community programs for all ages within North Plainfield and the immediate vicinity, and to offer programs and charities that contribute to the betterment of the Borough. The department lists a goal of creating and maintaining a cohesive and synergistic environment for residents of North Plainfield.

North Plainfield Recreation coordinates community events including the annual 4th of July Parade, Community Day, and Outdoor Summer Concerts, and it organizes a ribbon cutting ceremony for brand-new basketball and pickleball courts at Green Acres Park as a community celebration event. North Plainfield also publicly recognizes Hometown Heroes for their courage, dedication, and service.

The leadership team includes Dennis Jackson as Director and Joe Irovando as Assistant Director. Dennis Jackson earned a BA in Psychology from Stockton University, participated in Stockton’s first Youth Mentorship Program serving high schools and junior high schools in the Atlantic County area, and later worked for the Essex County Chapter of The Urban League as Youth Coordinator and for the Black United Fund of Plainfield as Summer Camp Director and Director of the After School Program. He holds a broker’s license in New York and New Jersey, has managed several sales teams, holds an F license, and is a certified youth football coach. He has been involved with North Plainfield Recreation for 17 years in roles including coach, President of the Jr. Canucks Football Program, Site Supervisor, and member of the Recreation Committee, and he has served on the North Plainfield Board of Adjustments. Joe Irovando has over 40 years of service in the North Plainfield Recreation Department, has run a Men’s Softball league for over 35 years, and has worked as an official for Track and Field, Baseball, and Softball for the last 25 years.

Recreation Committee meetings are public and held on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30 PM. A ribbon cutting ceremony for the brand-new basketball and pickleball courts at Green Acres Park is scheduled as a community event on Saturday, June 20th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
