About

Fitzgerald School of Irish Dance offers Irish dance and traditional Irish step dancing classes, including Beginner Reels and Jigs. The program also includes Reel Robics for Adults as an additional Irish dance-based activity.

• Ages: 2–18 years old

The Fitzgerald School of Irish Dance was founded by Cathleen Dower in 2013. Founder Cathleen Dower has over 30 years of dancing experience. The program states that its goal is to help students build confidence, form lasting friendships, and improve endurance and flexibility, all while having fun performing and mastering the art of Irish dance. The school promotes traditional Irish step dancing in Central New Jersey and offers classes for both children and adults, with children’s Irish dance classes open to all ages from toddlers to teens. The program offers a Reel Robics class for adults for all fitness levels with no prior dance experience required, and the first class is free. Students have opportunities to perform and compete, and mini lessons are offered at the end of some performances where kids from the audience learn basics of Beginner Reels and Jigs.

The school is involved in the community by performing at the Old Bridge Public Library on a quarterly basis and performing for local Irish festivals, parades, and cultural events. Parent testimonials describe children having fun learning Irish dance, note that Miss Cathleen is described as a great teacher, and mention that older kids at the school are described as helpful with younger kids. Multiple parents report that their children love attending Fitzgerald School of Irish Dance and that they have seen progress over a little more than a year.
