The Fitzgerald School of Irish Dance was founded by Cathleen Dower in 2013 and is named in honor of Mary Ellen Fitzgerald Dower. Founder Cathleen Dower has over 30 years of dancing experience in teaching and performing. The school’s mission is to promote traditional Irish step dancing in Central New Jersey and to offer classes for both children and adults, with a goal of helping students build confidence, form lasting friendships, and improve endurance and flexibility while performing and mastering Irish dance. The program includes a Reel Robics class for adults for all fitness levels with no prior dance experience required.
The Fitzgerald School of Irish Dance performs at the Old Bridge Public Library on a quarterly basis and at local Irish festivals, parades, and cultural events. At the end of some shows, they offer a mini lesson where kids from the audience learn basics of Beginner Reels and Jigs. Parent testimonials describe children having fun learning Irish dance, progressing over time, and enjoying Miss Cathleen’s teaching, with some parents noting helpful older students and recommending the school.
