Teachers and staff at Champions at Washington are trained in health and safety practices, including pandemic-response protocols, and are trained in first aid and CPR. Staff members are trained in child development, early childhood education, or a related field, and criminal background checks are conducted for staff. The program states that it offers activities that combine fun and learning, together with the safety and convenience of a high-quality program right inside the school.

Champions at Washington has several safety and health procedures, including allowing only authorized staff and families to enter sites, using smoke detectors and fire extinguishers at all sites, and cleaning with safe, non-toxic cleaning products while sanitizing high-touch items and surfaces throughout the day. Wellness screening is located near the Family Communication Area, and Champions follows local health department guidelines and the guidance of the schools they operate in for COVID-19 response. Outdoor play is supervised and conducted only on safe, secure outdoor play spaces available at the school or program location, and staff are regularly trained on safety measures related to field trips or off-site activities. Each site has an emergency evacuation plan that is tested frequently, an emergency plan and list of procedures posted in each classroom, and a National Support Center crisis team that supports each center during and after emergencies. The program has strict policies for administering medication.

Most Champions sites offer breakfast, lunch, and snacks, and meal service may vary from site to site. Menus in sites that provide meal service satisfy applicable federal and state nutrition guidelines. Financial assistance or tuition discounts may be available, including employer, sibling, military, and public programs.

All children must be signed in and out on a paper-based roster and/or computer system, and only pre-approved people with photo identification may pick up a child from the program. Written authorization must be on file at the site before a child is released to anyone, and families are asked not to post photos or videos that contain images of children other than their own on the internet.
