Nevada Basketball Academy offers private lessons, small group lessons, NVBA practices, and 5 v 5 sessions with Hopkins’ Basketball. Participants also take part in tournaments, college prep, recruiting advice, and academic tutoring services.
Nevada Basketball Academy is a 501c3 non-profit organization that has served the young women of Northern Nevada for over twenty years. All coaches are USAB Gold Certified and undergo annual background tests. The program is led by NVBA Executive Director Walt Hopkins, a Sparks, NV native and former WNBA and FIBA professional head coach. Coach Hopkins holds dual master's degrees in Education from Harvard University and UC Berkeley, where he studied various branches of Psychology, as well as Motivation and Coaching Theory. According to the stated mission, the program focuses on aspiring basketball players of all skill levels, with an emphasis on both short and long-term individual development on and off the court. The organization notes that players have the opportunity to play with and against high-level talent on the West Coast, and that Coach Hopkins provides college prep, recruiting advice, and academic tutoring services to all of the young women he coaches.
