Camp Shakespeare is presented by the Hamptons Shakespeare Festival, a nonprofit organization. Each session is led by a team of trained theater educators. The program has been a creative summer program since 1999 and is entering its 27th summer. Since 1996, Hamptons Shakespeare Festival has presented free outdoor theater and educational programs from eastern Long Island to New York City, with free outdoor productions seen by tens of thousands of individuals and families and educational programs reaching thousands of children from Montauk to Manhattan. HSF productions emphasize engaging acting in natural surroundings and imaginative interpretations of plays with original music and dance, and the audience is encouraged to bring the family and a picnic to early-evening outdoor performances that use natural performance spaces, including distant hillsides and surprise entrances from the crowd. HSF has been praised in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, Newsday, and local papers such as The East Hampton Star, Dan’s Papers, and The Southampton Press. One parent described the program as “The best experience my children had the entire summer.” Reservations are now being accepted for the 27th summer of this program for ages 8–14.
