Town of Amherst Youth & Recreation Programs include activities such as golfing, ice skating, and Public Skate sessions. Year-round indoor ice skating is available through the Northtown Center at Amherst, which offers Public Skate sessions for people of all ages. From spring through late fall, area residents and non-residents can golf at two public golf courses, and a driving range is also available.

• Schedule: Office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
The Amherst Youth & Recreation Department offers programs for residents of all ages. Program activities are held at various Recreation and Community Center locations throughout the town, and Amherst has over 20 outdoor park and playground locations that include playgrounds, shelters, bike paths, tennis courts, sports fields, and picnic areas. Picnic shelters and select facilities are available for rental by large groups, and two pools along with a splash park are available for resident use during the summer months. The Northtown Center at Amherst has three NHL ice rinks and one Olympic-sized rink, and the complex grounds include softball fields. From spring through late fall, area residents and non-residents alike can enjoy golfing at two public golf courses, and a driving range is also available.
Program registration requires a resident ID card, and a current 2026 resident photo ID card is required to register for youth and recreation programs, including camp and child care programs. ID cards are valid for one calendar year, are good from January 1 through December 31, and can be obtained at the Northtown Center at Amherst, with each individual required to be present for their photo. For registration questions, or to register as a non-resident, families can call 716-631-7132.
