Key to My Art opened in 2015 under the leadership of owner Riesa Fischer. In 2019, Riesa completed a second Master's Degree in Art Therapy and is now a practicing Art Therapist in addition to teaching. Riesa is a New York State certified Art Teacher and Art Therapist with a lifetime of experience working in the arts and specializes in work with children.

According to its mission statement, Key to My Art is a place that encourages creativity and provides materials and instruction, described as giving participants the “KEY” to their art. The studio states that there is always a positive, encouraging environment with no judgments or harsh criticism, and that it was created to provide the community with a place to use new materials, learn new techniques, or practice old ones in an environment that feels “GOOD.” The studio notes that while guidance and instruction are provided, it does not encourage “coloring in the lines” or trying to make things look “perfect,” and a statement often heard in classes is “There is NO WRONG in art!”

The owner states, “I believe that EVERYONE can create, and NOBODY should feel that they aren't good enough. Art is a fun, relaxing way to express yourself. I want all our art-makers to know that we are 100% committed to making you feel comfortable, and creative!” Key to My Art notes that it has been featured in a Newsday article in March 2020, an article in Your Local Kids Source in March 2020, and on News 12 and in Newsday.
