About

St. Gertrude's Preschool includes self-expression through language, art, dramatics, music, and play. The program also includes simple prayer and the celebration of Christian holy days, along with the introduction of certain Church symbols and references to all creations as creatures of God and friends to all. Its curriculum uses a thematic and hands-on approach, with a focus on two-, three-, and four-year-old education and goals that include providing a basic religious understanding of God and sharing Catholic faith in a developmentally appropriate manner.

• Ages: 2–4 years old

The St. Gertrude's Preschool program is designed to provide a happy, secure place where each child will have a variety of experiences to develop these skills while nurturing a positive self-concept. Typical areas covered in the 2-year-old program include simple colors, shapes, farm animals, zoo animals, pets, family, all about me, musical instruments, transportation, nursery rhymes, separation, and socialization. Typical areas covered in the 3-year-old program include seasons, forest animals, polar animals, the five senses, air and wind, rain, insects, colors, numbers from 1–10, shapes, separation, and socialization. Typical areas covered in the 4-year-old program include patterning, sequencing, community helpers, sight recognition of letters and numbers, name recognition, and writing of the letters of the alphabet, numbers, and one's name, with greater emphasis on academic training in the 4-year-old program to prepare the children for kindergarten.

St. Gertrude's Preschool is a nursery school serving the Bayville, Locust Valley, Glen Cove, Oyster Bay, and surrounding communities. The staff is comprised of dedicated veterans and young professionals, and staff members are required to be Virtus trained, which is a program provided by the Church to educate all who work with children about abuse. The teachers are certified and experienced in working with young children, and all staff are CPR trained and certified. Classes are small, with an approximate adult-to-child ratio of 6:1 for four-year-olds, 5:1 for three-year-olds, and 4:1 for two-year-olds.
