About
John McEnroe Tennis Academy offers JMTA Training Camps and JMTA Summer Training Camps that include Summer Tennis Training Camp and strength, agility, and mental toughness training. The program includes JMTA MAC Red & Orange Programs, JMTA MAC Red & Orange Ball Performance Enhancements, JMTA Green & Yellow Ball Programs, and JMTA Green & Yellow Ball Training. Players also take part in injury prevention protocols and training, as well as training and guidance on proper nutrition and hydration.
The academy was conceived and developed by John McEnroe in partnership with SPORTIME Clubs and was launched in September 2010 in his hometown of New York City. It is directed by John McEnroe, along with JMTA Executive Director Patrick McEnroe and SPORTIME Executive Director of Tennis Mike Barrell, who is described as a world-renowned junior development expert. JMTA features an international staff of dedicated and enthusiastic coaches with a diversity of experience, and its team of world-class directors provides coaches with ongoing supervision, support, and training to ensure they are achieving the JMTA standard and executing the JMTA coaching methodology.
The program includes JMTA Program Enhancements, JMTA MAC Red & Orange Ball Performance Enhancements, and JMTA College Navigator Service, as well as Tennis & Athletic Scholarship Tryouts and JMTA College Signings. The training program is described as “Serious Training. Serious Motivation. Serious Results.” and emphasizes intensity and efficiency from both players and coaches, making the most of time spent on court. According to the program, players become smarter, stronger, fitter, and faster through world-class on-court coaching and off-court programming, and JMTA is described as a community of learners.
John McEnroe is a native of Douglaston, Queens, and is described as one of the greatest tennis players of all time and the greatest player to come out of New York. The academy states that it is the tri-state area’s #1 program for developing nationally and internationally competitive juniors, as well as junior players of all ages and levels who aspire to be the best that they can be. It reports that it has produced hundreds of players who have won titles at the sectional, national, intercollegiate, and international levels, and thousands more who have fallen in love with tennis as a life-long sport. The training program states that it helps players reach their full potential while supporting them in their academic and off-court pursuits, and that John McEnroe’s passion and belief is that great players can be developed in urban settings while still living at home, pursuing educational goals, and participating in a variety of sports and extracurricular activities.
