Children of Promise, NYC After-School Program and Summer Day Camp is the first and only after-school program and summer day camp in New York City that combines therapeutic empowerment services and youth development in one setting. The program includes Project D.R.E.A.M. (Developing Responsible, Excellent, and Awesome Minds), which provides one-to-one mentoring to children of incarcerated parents.

In 2009, Children of Promise, NYC was founded as the first and only after-school program and summer day camp in New York City specifically created to meet the needs, interests, and concerns of children whose parent is serving time in prison. The program’s mission is to disrupt intergenerational cycles of trauma and poverty by delivering educational support, mental health care, youth advocacy, and family stabilization programs. Children of Promise, NYC serves Black, Indigenous, and people of color ages 6–18 who are experiencing parental incarceration, and currently 100% of the children and families served are BIPOC, with the vast majority living at or below the poverty line. The organization provides on-site help five days a week from a team of psychiatrists, social workers, and creative arts therapists. Children of Promise, NYC describes itself as community-centered and partners with children and families impacted by mass incarceration to address stigma and trauma in Black and Brown communities. The organization states that it reimagines a just society that values the purpose of every child impacted by mass incarceration and removes barriers to create opportunities for children to thrive and reach their human potential. With strategic locations in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn and the South Bronx, Children of Promise, NYC provides an integrative approach to mental health and out-of-school time services.
